Meet Our People

Jacob Weinig, CAIA

Founder & Portfolio Manager, Iceberg Capital Group LP & Iceberg International Corp CEO, Iceberg Labs

Jake is the Founding Partner and PM of Iceberg Capital and CEO of Iceberg Labs. Jake brings nearly 20 years experience in the financial markets to Iceberg and more than 7 years experience in managing a hedge fund, as before starting Iceberg, Jake previously founded and ran Malachite Capital Management, a global equity index volatility fund from 2013-2020. As portfolio manager at Malachite, Jake delivered double digit annual net returns through February 2020 before closing down later in the year due to drawdowns sustained related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Prior to Malachite, Jake spent over 9 years at Goldman Sachs, where he ran a Global Institutional Derivative Sales team, working with a variety of institutional investors, as well as hedge funds, and other asset managers. 

While at Malachite, Jake earned multiple awards including emerging manager of the year in 2014 and volatility hedge fund of the year in 2016 and 2017.  He was named entrepreneur of the year by YJP Finance Network in 2016 and was later added to YJPs list of 40 Under 40.  In 2019 Jake was inducted into the EQDerivatives Volatility Hall of Fame.  Jake started a program called MalachiteGIVES that was able to raise over $3mm for charities during his tenure at Malachite.  

Jake currently serves on the board of directors for two New York City-based organizations; Getting Out and Staying Out (GOSO), which looks to help young men get out of jail and then thrive as members of the community, and Project Morry, which works to empower young people from under-resourced communities to envision and establish a positive future. Previously Jake served on the board of Project FAIR and on the investment committee for the Ethical Culture School. Jake grew up in New York City and later attended Northwestern University where he graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering.

Forrest Denton

Partner, Head of Trading

Forrest will be the head of Iceberg Capital’s sub-advisor, Iceberg International, where he will be running international trading operations for the funds to access markets and liquidity only available to offshore trading entities. Forrest brings to Iceberg his deep understanding of the crypto markets and abilities as a trader.  Forrest previously worked as an equity derivatives index volatility trader at Société Générale. In this capacity he worked closely with hedge funds, insurance companies, pension, and endowment funds. Forrest Holds a BS in Finance from New York University Shanghai and has extensive international experience having lived and worked overseas, as well as visiting over 130 countries.

John Quarnstrom

Chief Technology Officer & Programmer

John builds out all of Icebergs internal tools and works closely with all team members to streamline systems. He received his bachelors in computer science from ASU  and is now a blockchain engineer with four years experience developing automated trading and analytics solutions for various blockchains including Ethereum and more recently, Polygon and Solana. Specializing in quantitative analysis for both on-chain and off-chain metrics across spot, options, and futures markets for various cryptocurrencies. Previously built interest rate protocols for Maple Finance, working with various teams including Uniswap, Balancer, and others to integrate their protocols and AMMs (automated market-making protocols). Also experienced at organizing efforts for mid-sized engineering teams to deliver reliable automated CeFi trading solutions for futures and derivatives markets, including monitoring tools for risk management (across Bitmex, Binance, and FTX).
